TrueBlue, you make a good point. I don't think BYU and Utah would jump ship from the MWC simply because they are the kings of the conference, and not just in football. They dominate the conference in basically everything. If the MWC becomes a BCS auto qualifier, they are exactly where they want to be. If not, then yes, jumping over to the Pac-10 makes sense. But if the MWC expands to include Boise State, there's not way they don't become an auto BCS qualifier. So we'll have to see.

One thing is for sure, there won't be a Pac 16. The Texas schools don't want to give those California universities a foothold in their recruiting territory. never going to happen. I could see a pac 14 if Byu/Utah and Colorado/Colorado State joined the conference. But I doubt colorado state meets the academic requirements for the conference is all.

Sloppy, I hate to be the one to break your hypothesis, but if BYU and Utah get an invite from the PAC 10, they'll have their bags packed and ready before you can say "Rose Bowl". The PAC 10 not only brings guaranteed BCS access to these two schools, but also a much, much better TV contract that the pathetic excuse the MWC has in its partnership with Comcast and "The Mtn."

With all the speculation about what is going to happen running rampant, I fully expect the PAC 10 to jump immediately to 16 teams to improve their prospects in the next TV contract, which would include BYU/Utah, Colorado/Nebraska, Texas/Texas A&M. The new PAC 16 would have a Pacific Division made up of the old PAC 8 members and an Eastern Division made up of the six new members and the Arizona schools.

Such a combination would give the PAC 16 a virtual monopoly on every TV set from Seattle to Dallas and from LA to Omaha. Such a move would kill the BCS chances of the MWC and would doom the Big XII. Why just add two teams when you can kill off the up-and-coming MWC and the Big XII all in one shot?
