Short post this week, but a few important things to say.
First off, how about that SEC west? Pretty good division if Texas A&M can score a road upset. NOT! It means, as we have known all along, that the division is overrated. There are good teams, but right now it looks like only Mississippi State is an elite team. Alabama struggled immensely with LSU…a team Auburn beat bad. And Texas A&M beats Auburn…a team Alabama beat bad. All you can get from this is that none of these guys is head and shoulders above the rest. Chances are Alabama and Mississippi State will each lose one more time. I think the winner of the Mississippi State and Alabama game will have the clearest path to the playoff, but we’ll see. Definitely won’t be two teams that’s for sure.
TCU has come out of nowhere and convinced me they are big time. Same with Oregon. I think each team is a lock for the playoff at this point. Florida State still looks shaky, and Mississippi State had less touchdowns in the first against an FCS team than Texas A&M did on the road against Auburn. That’s saying something.
If I were voting for the Heisman, I would write down Mariota and no one else because no one else comes close. I’m guessing you’ll see Dak Prescott, Melvin Gordon and Trevone Boykin at the ceremony, but Mariota will win in a landslide.
If I’m guessing the four playoff teams at this point I would guess Mississippi State, Florida State, Oregon and TCU. As long as they all win the rest of their games that’s how it will end up. Alabama could displace Mississippi State and Arizona State could displace Oregon. Long shots would be Baylor and Ohio State.
If I were an AP voter this would be my ballot this week:
1. Mississippi State
2. Florida State
6. Arizona State
8. Ohio State
11. Ole Miss
12. Kansas State
13. Michigan State
16. Notre Dame
23. Colorado State
25. Georgia Tech
