Other than some turmoil in the Big 12, not much to report this week. But at least we are one week closer to the only rankings that matter.
Florida State got lucky yet again. How many times can they get outplayed and win the game? It will catch up to them eventually. Boston College, Virginia, Louisville and Florida are still to come, and one could play spoiler.
Kansas State now finds themselves on top of the Big 12 with the only team left without a conference loss. Probably won’t last long though. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- the Pac-12 and Big 12 champions are both going to have two losses. Too deep of conferences not to.
SEC champion? Not a deep conference, so not so much to worry about. One loss champion for sure. Why? Because the SEC is 5 teams, that’s why. Both teams from Mississippi have wins over one of the others with games still looming against more of them…plus each other. If you only have to get up for 4 games on your schedule, albeit 4 very hard games, it’s still easy to come away with just one loss.
If I were a Heisman voter my ballot would look like this:
1. Marcus Mariota
2. Dak Prescott
3. Melvin Gordon
If I were an AP voter this is what my ballot would look like:
1. Mississippi State
2. Ole Miss
3. Florida State
5. Notre Dame
12. Michigan State
13. Kansas State
14. Ohio State
15. Arizona State
24. West Virginia
25. East Carolina
And if I had to guess the four teams that will make the playoff, I’m going with:
Sugar Bowl: (1) Mississippi State vs (4) Florida State
Rose Bowl: (2) Oregon vs (3) TCU
