In defense of my Virginia Tech Hokies:

Considering that there's only 2 teams in the country (them and Texas) with 6 or more consecutive 10-win seasons, I would venture to say that something better than "perpetual mediocrity" is afoot.

Plus, Tech is willing to play good nonconference competition. Sure, they've lost the grand majority of those noncon games, but it sure as heck beats watching Florida beat Western Carolina by 67.

Yes, they play in the sea of mediocrity that is the ACC, but the other team with a long streak of 10-win seasons is Texas (also on this list, but let me rant). And Texas' non-conference schedule last season was UCF, Wyoming, Louisiana-Monroe, and UTEP. Compared with Alabama, Nebraska, ECU, and Marshall for Virginia Tech.

In conclusion, no, even I do not think that Virginia Tech has earned the right to be the #6 team in the country. But I'm also sure they're not more overrated than, say, Texas. Or Florida.

Jim, I don't make a living out of being a sports writer, I do this for fun. I hope you don't make a living out of posting obnoxious, ignorant, non-constructive banter on blogs.
