The Weekend That Will Live In Infamy

Some moments in college football you just remember. I was at my friend’s house watching the Boise State trickery against Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. I was at the bowling alley watching Texas beat USC for the national title. I was at a restaurant last night when I saw Auburn return a failed FG all the way to win the game and give us the best chance in a long time that no SEC team will play for the national title. What a crazy finish.

In case you missed it, Alabama is no longer unbeaten. Only three teams are, and Northern Illinois isn’t exactly in the mix for the BCS championship. That means the Seminoles and Buckeyes are on a collision course if they can win their conference championship games, no easy feat for either team. Ohio State gets Michigan State and Florida State gets a surprising Duke team. Get past those and they will surely play for the title. Auburn gets Missouri so the SEC champion will definitely be a one loss team. I doubt either one gets past one of the undefeateds though.

With that loss Johnny Manziel is finished in the Heisman race. He doesn’t stand a chance. AJ McCarron is out too. Mariota threw two more interceptions and needed all 60 minutes to get past Oregon State. Seems to me Jameis Winston is taking this thing home in a landslide. If I were a Heisman voter and got to fill out a three name ballot, mine would look like this:

1. Jameis Winston
2. Jordan Lynch
3. Andrew Williams

I have no idea what’s going to happen in the BCS standings this week. I’m confident Florida State and Ohio State will be one and two. After that it looks like a mess. But if I were an AP voter, this would be my top 25 ballot:

1. Florida State
2. Ohio State
3. Auburn
4. Alabama
5. Missouri
6. Oklahoma State
7. Michigan State
8. Stanford
9. South Carolina
10. Baylor
11. Oregon
12. Clemson
13. Arizona State
14. Northern Illinois
15. UCF
16. Oklahoma
17. UCLA
18. LSU
19. Duke
20. Louisville
21. Fresno State
22. Cincinnati
23. Wisconsin
24. Texas
25. Miami

Next weekend is championship weekend, so lots can happen, that’s for sure. Here’s how I think the BCS bowls will play out:

Championship: Florida State vs Ohio State
Rose: Stanford vs Northern Illinois
Fiesta: Oklahoma State vs Oregon
Sugar: Auburn vs Michigan State
Orange: Alabama vs UCF

Can’t wait until next week, this has been one exciting season!
