Only got to catch the end of one game, but glad I did. I saw the last few minutes of the Georgia-Auburn game. Wow. Just wow. Crazy comeback for Georgia. Crazy Hail Mary for Auburn. And it all ended when Aaron Murray got creamed trying to throw the last pass of the game. Fun to watch. But what about college football at large?
I’ll say one thing. Alabama sure didn’t look like the No. 1 team in the land. And Ohio State sure didn’t look like a team that’s got a great defense. Lots of inconsistencies in those two teams this season. Same for Florida State though. Early on they had their struggles. Baylor seems to be the only one left who is undefeated that has consistently just about crushed everyone. We’ll see how they do against Oklahoma State.
How about Duke? They are in the driver’s seat to go to the ACC Championship game. Might actually help Florida State’s computer rankings if they do. They should get their first AP ranking in forever too. Good for them.
If I had an AP ballot, this is how I would fill it out today:
2. Florida State
4. Ohio State
9. Oklahoma State
10. Michigan State
11. South Carolina
14. Fresno State
15. Northern Illinois
18. Texas A&M
19. Arizona State
Big win for USC which vaults them back into the rankings. Orgeron just guaranteed his interim status will be removed next season if he wants to stay on board as head coach. Hug win.
Conferences are really taking shape now, so let’s look at the adjusted predictions:
Pac-12: Oregon beats Arizona State
Big 12: Baylor
Big Ten: Michigan State beats Ohio State
SEC: Alabama beats South Carolina
ACC: Florida State beats Duke
With that in mind, here’s how I think the BCS bowl picture is looking:
Championship: Alabama vs Florida State
Rose Bowl: Oregon vs Michigan State
Orange Bowl: UCF vs Clemson
Sugar Bowl: Auburn/Texas A&M/Missouri (one of them) vs Ohio State
Fiesta Bowl: Baylor vs Fresno State/Northern Illinois (one of them)
Not very definitive, I know, but that’s how it’s going to shake out I think. Guess we’ll wait and see.
