Looks like K-State will be available. This would be a good fit with good-to-great football and basketball programs.

The only way the MWC will pass up any of the Big 6 in this area is if the cellar-dwellers — San Diego St, Wyoming, Colorado St, New Mexico, and UNLV — step it up and win their nonconference games
_____________________________
Lets look at Wyomings non conference games for the last 4 years.
2006 ok 3 losses 1 win
losses to boise by 7 virginia in ot and syracuse in 2 ot

2007 3 wins 1 loss
loss to boise, crushed virginia, and beat ohio by 1

2008 3w 1 loss
loss to bowling green, beat ohio and tennessee
2009 3w 2 loss
      loss to texas and colorado
      Win against fresno state

Wyoming is rocking vs non-conference. beating Boise, Texas, or Virginia in those years would have been a tough for even the non-cellar dwelling MWC teams.

The losses to Colorado and Bowling Green were just embarrasing.

No matter which teams the MWC acquires, it still wouldn't pass up the Big 10 in average ranking unless it dumps the lower squads or they move to different conferences voluntarily (both unlikely). Only Boise St and Houston would help them out using the past two years' rankings.

More than that, they would actually have to beat Big 6 teams to convince those ranking them that they should be ranked higher. Quite unlikely. I guess another option is for an AQ conference like the Big East or the ACC to absolutely tank in the next two years. Also unlikely. That Bill Hancock has it all figured out -- he gets to keep his cartel the way it is while appearing fair.
