I’m working on doing this for all teams and doing it each week throughout the season, but I have to find a programmer for that to happen.

In the BCS ranking system, 1/3 of the ranking is determined by an average of 6 computer polls. Of the remaining 2/3, half is determined by the Harris poll of former players and such and half is determined by the coaches poll. Does it seem a little backward that the polls most open to error and bias count for 6 times as much as one computer poll? Me too, so here’s a solution.

The 2010 college football season is now behind us, so we can look forward to the 2011 preseason college football rankings which will be officially released in August. The actual preseason rankings from the AP and USA Today may not be released until August, but plenty of people have given their thoughts as to what those rankings should be. As we did with the 2010 preseason rankings and with the 2009 preseason rankings, we’re going to compile as many 2011 college football preseason rankings as we can find and give you a very accurate look at what the official rankings will look like this year.

All right, it is still rough, but I’ve analyzed data from Boise State and Alabama last year to see who really deserved the national title. I found some interesting points. To recap this rankings methodology, here it is in a nutshell. After 6 games have been played, you take every teams average points per game scored and average points per game allowed. You then look at the averages of any given team vs. the averages of their opponents. Look at the actual scores of the games. Then each team gets another set of averages- how many more points do they score on their opponents than their opponents allow, and how many fewer points they allow than their opponents score on average. Still with me?

It is that time of year again, where everyone is speculating about the 2010 preseason college football rankings. Just like we did for the 2009 preseason rankings, we are doing again this year for the college football preseason rankings 2010. I found nine different places posting what they think the rankings should be this year, and have once again added them up to get a good sense for what they will be this year when they are released in August by the AP Poll and USA Today Poll.
