A look at the NFL draft

The NFL draft is almost upon us and the pundits have done their analyzing and bloviating. But one important voice has yet to chime in…mine. Ok, so maybe Todd Mcshay or Mel Kiper know more than me…but at least I have a better hair cut than Mel Kiper. You can see some of their draft predictions at ESPN. But what do I think? Good question.

Plenty of websites thought they had the draft figured out like Sunday Kickoff. But today, the NFL announced they are suspending Ben Rothlisberger for the first 6 games of the season. Guess what that does to the draft? It means the Steelers are going to try and trade Big Ben for a top 10 pick and grab Jimmy Clausen or Colt McCoy.

One things for sure in all of this- no Holmes and no Rothlisberger in Pittsburgh means a lot less NFL tickets are getting sold this year. The Steelers are one of the most followed teams in the sport. No big name players means no one cares anymore. Not a good call Goodell.

At any rate, the suspension is final, and you know the Steelers are going to go for a trade to get a top ten pick. Who will cough it up? Easy pick- the Raiders. They come in at #8. They have a bust of a draft pick at QB now in Russell. Rothlisberger, based on his alleged actions, fits in perfectly in Oakland. The Raiders fix their QB issue and don’t have to waste another good draft pick on fodder. Call me crazy, but the Raiders have done crazy things. It’s happening, Oakland trades the 8 pick for Big Ben. Steelers draft Jimmy Clausen.
