Expansion Who Wins, Who Loses
Okay with the dust finally settling in this realignment business, we can be sure of one thing that even though things may be calm and the wholesale changes to different conferences has been stemmed for now, the realignment talk is not done.
Let’s recap; Utah leaves the Mountain West behind and joins the Pac-10, Boise St. replaces them in the MWC after leaving the WAC Nebraska and Colorado leaves the Big-12 for a chance to play in the Rose Bowl, Nebraska to the Big-10, and Colorado to the Pac-10. For the record only four programs will be filing change of address forms for now.

Utah goes to the Pac-10 and 10 teams want in the MWC
So Utah did it. I think it is a mistake to be honest. They had more to gain by staying on top of a growing conference. But hey, they did it for the nookie. The interesting thing to come of this is Craig Thompson’s comments after the move. With Utah leaving the MWC, many speculated they would expand further to get to a conference championship game. Thompson put an end to that.

Will Utah go to the Pac-10?
It’s official, the Pac-10 has done what everyone expected them to do and invited Utah to become their 12th member. Everyone saw this coming. But what everyone else sees coming next might not be the case. You should see the headline at ESPN right now, Pac-10 invites Utah. Source: Utes will accept. Oh yeah? Is this the same “source” that told ESPN the move to the Pac-10 by Texas and others was “imminent” on Monday? And they turned out to stay in the Big 12? ESPN better start naming sources, or their credibility will get shot down.

The Latest on Conference Expansion
Most of us were sure the conference expansion talks would die down after Texas decided to stick with the Big 12. Following their announcement, the entire league essentially announced how “committed” they were to Texas…er, the Big 12. So with the 10 team league in tact, the Pac-10′s plan for a mega conference was foiled. Most thought conference expansion talk would finish. But not quite. The Pac-10 is now the Pac-11. They need one more for that conference championship game.
