Air Force, Independence , and the Big XII

Bleacher report detailed in a recent article that Air Force is monitoring BYU’s move to Independence carefully and could possibly if enticed with the possibility of more exposure leave the Mountain West for Independence or something else, which could be membership in the Big-12.

The Big XII, What’s Next?

Last year around this time there was talk surrounding conference expansion and conference realignment. The college football fan was forced to learn about things like market size, and learn about “not so secret academic societies” like the Association of American Universities (AAU). The fan was treated to a look into the overall arrogance of programs when it comes to conference affiliation and with whom they choose to align themselves. Finally the fan has had the veil of “we operate in the best interest of the student athlete” ripped from our collective eyes.

The NCAA when it comes to the sport of College football is essentially a titular body, I know some of you are saying; “tell me something that we don’t know.” But the events of the last six months are conclusive evidence of this fact and it is because of this fact that we will not see a playoff in Division One college football. The BCS controls the NCAA as well as college football.
Exhibit A, four suspended players were allowed to play for Ohio St in the Sugar bowl. The issues which brought about the suspensions will ultimately be served this year during the NCAA regular season.

Conference Movement and Recruiting

Spring practice has ended and depth charts are being finalized, as programs go into the summer off season. The position battles in the fall will be key to the immediate success of programs but as we all know college football at times can be a war of attrition as; “he with the best depth can survive key injuries which occur at key times”. This idea of quality depth speaks to recruiting and the ability of coaching staffs to recruit. With the shifting of programs into new conferences the issue of recruiting is the hidden piece to each program that has jumped conferences, which will ultimately determine whether a programs will be able to consistently compete.
Nebraska’s move to the Big-10 was thought to immediately have a negative impact on recruiting.
